Four Months Old

*Because you know I'm all about that Grace, 'bout that Grace (and Sophia). I'm all about that Grace, 'bout that Grace (and Sophia)* Better lyrics for that song, I think. :D

Height: 24.75"
Weight: 14lb 1oz
Head: 16.14"
(Half an inch longer than Sophia, head an inch bigger, and a little more than a pound heavier)

At 4 months, Grace...
- is chunky. She's got such cute, big thighs, little wrist rolls and dimples on her fingers and elbows.
- wears some 0-3, mostly 3-6 and size 2 diapers.
- finally has a bedtime routine, and now she goes to bed between 8-9pm. She still wakes up 2x a night, but has a pretty regular eating schedule during the day.
- takes 3 naps a day (longest in afternoon, others about 30 minutes)
- takes medicine for acid reflux after about 10 days eating and sleeping so poorly we went to the pediatrician to see what was going on.
- loves sucking on her hands and reaching up to touch her hair.
- is very social. Usually when Grace is fussy, it's because she's bored (sorry, second child). All she wants is to be held and given 100% of our attention. :) Then she'll calm down, smile, babble back and forth, laugh and make lots of cute sounds. My cheeks often hurt from smiling when I play with her. She's just so cute!
- likes being held facing out and standing up so she can see what's going on around her.
- hates tummy time.
- already has light blue eyes (the same color as Sophia's)
- all the sudden, she turns her head to the right without any pain, and sleeps with her head to the right just as much as the left. After 4 months of stretches, chiropractor visits and moving her head when she sleeps, that's a cause for celebration in our house! Hopefully it'll help her flat head. We were referred to a specialist to see if she needs a helmet. :( It doesn't look like it's getting worse, but the left side is still definitely flattened. The pediatrician noted how it affects the front of the face. One ear is way higher than the other!! I can't believe we never noticed that before!
- Differences with Grace and Sophia: Sophia was sleeping 8-10 hours at night by 4 months, Grace does not have a bald spot in the back (wahoo!), and I was giving Sophia a couple ounces of formula every day by this age.

Not very many 3 month olds get bedhead!

Grace wasn't very excited to be re-united with Grandma. She instantly got a big lip and cried every time she saw Grandma the first day. Then she warmed up, but it was pretty hilarious.
Nothing quite as nice as holding a sleeping baby.
Sometimes I call Grace "Little Face" because....look at that cute, squishy little face!!
Sophia reading Grace bedtime stories
Sophia playing restaurant (supervised, of course)
We strategically place her so she has to look to the right to play with us or see toys
Dancing with Daddy
Trying so hard to get that hand into her mouth, but it's stuck on her toy
Moved her bed into the closet last week, and she's finally sleeping in her bed all night (instead of the rocker). Now she has her "own room". :P

Houston Home

Our time in Houston is already more than half-way over, but I finally got around to taking the last of the apartment tour pictures. It really shouldn't have taken so long because we hurried to unpack and hang pictures since we knew Grace would be born shortly after our move. It's finny - the thing that took the longest was finding enough and big enough curtains for our many tall, wide windows.

It's different to live in a gated complex with a parking garage, but I guess that's city livin'. :) The apartment is really roomy, fancy, and a great home for us while we're here. It's also right on the bus route, so Russ can take the bus to and from work. I realized I've been pretty lazy about my seasonal decorating because we don't really have people over. It's a sad change from the numerous girls nights and get-togethers we always had with our friends in Minneapolis.

After walking in, there's a small entryway. Then it opens up to the kitchen on your left, living/dining area in front of you, and a nice big desk/laundry area, Sophia's room, and the 2nd bathroom tucked away on the right. (Sophia calls that whole area the "'nother part of my room")
linen closet, Sophia's room, 2nd bathroom, laundry
desk, linen closet
Sophia's bathroom
Dining area
Living Room and door to balcony
Living room and door to master bedroom
Master bedroom
Huge, awesome walk-in closet
And the cutest part: the girls' room, which is really just Sophia's room + Grace's stuff + crib Grace probably won't use while we live here (or at least until she sleeps through the night)

Sophia's "big girl bed" and moving box playhouse :D

Sophia is THREE!

Our little girl is 3! Officially a "preschooler" instead of a "toddler". Sophia is sweet, creative, observant, hilarious, generally pretty obedient, fun-loving, timid in new situations, smart... and a little bossy (sometimes I call her "little dictator"). She brings so much joy to our family. We are so, so glad to call her ours.

I didn't mean to put this video first, but it's too much work to drag it to the end :)

The minute Russ and I walked into her room this morning to sing, she said, "It's my BIRTHDAY!" We celebrated last weekend, but she was a little confused about why her friends weren't coming over again and why she wasn't getting another cake. Tonight when she went to bed she asked Russ (a little disappointed), "Is my birthday over now?" Russ had the day off today, so we went to the zoo as a family. I never thought it'd still be 90 degrees on her birthday, but it didn't stop her from having a great time. Her favorite part was riding the carousel. In the car on the way there, she said, "I'm growing bigger! Means I'm almost a grown up!" I said, "Yep, only 15 more years until you're a grown-up." She seemed pretty satisfied with that response. haha

Sophia had a Daniel Tiger birthday party with a few little friends. She wanted to invite "all my friends from pee-school and my nursery friends. I can't remember their names", but I told her she could only invite 3. She did tell me she wanted a pink trolley birthday cake. Sophia had a really fun time with her friends and LOVED her birthday. It's pretty fun she's old enough now to understand and get excited about this special day. Every time she opened a gift, she'd say, "Oh WOOOOOWWW!", but she was terrified of the candle on her birthday cake. (Note: She was also terrified of the candle on a birthday treat at a restaurant. Tonight we had cupcakes at home, she finally blew out the candle, and she was pretty dang proud of herself.)
The party was in the morning, so we had some of Sophia's favorite foods that could double as snack foods: applesauce, tomatoes, crackers, cheese, and strawberries.

Oh the difference a year makes!

Poor Grace - we woke her up for this picture. haha

One of the gifts was Daniel Tiger character toys, and Daniel was just the right size for the cake!

We had a picnic...

and played in a fort - just like Daniel Tiger.

To remember Sophia at this age, I asked her about a few of her favorite things. Some of her answers surprised me, but when dealing with a 3 year old, I'm not sure the answers were100% accurate. :) Here are her answers, and the answers in ( ) are what I thought she'd say.
