Slow Down!!

Sophia is growing up SO FAST! I was thinking the other day how much has changed just in the past couple of months. She can do so many more things, and she is SO much bigger. See for yourself:

one week vs five months

 two weeks vs five months

one month vs five months (same outfit)

 one month vs five months

 4 weeks vs 4 months

tummy time: 3 weeks vs 4 months

 2 weeks vs 4 months

I miss the cuddly, tiny newborn. I also loooove this interactive baby. This video is one of my favorite moments with her...

5 Months

At 5 months old, Sophia is basically doing all the same things she did at 4 months, especially in terms of sleeping and eating patterns. In fact, I can't believe a whole month has already gone by! The only changes I can really think of are:
- weighs 14.2 pounds
- more droll
- more smiling
- LOTS more reaching
- no longer wants to be swaddled when she sleeps
- loves to sleep with a blanket over her face
- more squeals of delight and shrill shrieks
- longer hair! Still has a nice bald circle in the back, and hair is definitely Russ's color.
- finished off her size one diapers last night so now she's in size 2s
- still fits into some 0-3 month clothes, but wears mostly 3-6 month ones
smiling (too bad it focused on the lion instead of her!) and break-dancing
I couldn't get her to stop grabbing the lion, so I decided to take a couple with her standing so she couldn't reach it. A couple hours later I realized her pants were on backwards...which explains the bagginess in these pictures.

Sophia is still keeping up with her New Year's Resolution to stay fit. She still like us to help her do sit ups, but now she's also added crunches to her work-out regimen.

I love when she's holding herself up and then flops down. I imagine her saying, "Hold it. Hold it. Annnnnd oonnnne." She wants to sit up SO bad!
She's wearing the same outfit she wore when we brought her home from the hospital. That's probably the last time she'll be able to squeeze into those jammies. I also like the beginning where she does her new little sound...she does that about 100x a day, usually accompanied by a big smile. :)
She'll either get a six pack or start sitting up soon, I think
Here is our very own little dinosaur. When she makes these sounds, we're never quite sure if she's upset or if she's experimenting with her voice. Since this video was in the morning before she ate, I'm guessing it's a little of both.

Craft 3 of 5

I [finally] made Sophia's curtains. While making them, I thought about my plans to have them done before she was born. Her being born 3 weeks early led to me getting the curtains done 4 months later. I've literally had the fabric since July. Anyway. I wish I wouldn't have put them off for so long because once I got going, they were actually really simple to make.

Some mornings when Sophia gets up but I try to put her back down, she'll crane her little neck around to look out the window and see if it's light outside. I'm sure it's all in my head, but somehow I feel like she knew it was morning and was therefore trying to tell me she shouldn't have to go back to bed. A few weeks of that was enough motivation to get those curtains done. I hung blue curtains we already had behind the white to block out the light.

Now her room is just about complete! Here are some pictures of the rest of the room:
Sophia's closet with current clothes, plus 6 of the 8 boxes of her other clothes (from newborn to 12 months)
Her crib and very colorful bedding. Also her bff lion. If she wakes up too early, sometimes I just put the lion on her and she'll play with it/eat it for about 10 minutes.
Sophia modeling her changing table (I still need to hang up the bow holder)
I hate to admit that Sophia really hasn't wanted too much to do with rolling since that night last week when she wouldn't STOP rolling. Instead she poses as a cute little tummy time model.
I love her big eyes and cute little nose!
Also, Sophia has become quite good at unswaddling herself while she sleeps. When she does, she sleeps with her arms above her head, just like she did as a newborn. It's adorable.
We sure do love that little baby!

Rollin', Rollin', Rollin'

Sophia is rolling consistently now (as opposed to sometimes rolling but mostly crying during tummy time). She hasn't rolled from her back to her tummy yet, but she has been trying. Tonight when I was trying to take pictures of her rolling, she did it so often and fast that I had to hold her down until I got the camera ready. We're so proud of our little cutie!

Here she is modeling the stages of rolling for the camera:

A couple weeks ago she also started grabbing and exploring her hanging toys. It's so fun to see her learning new things.

4 Months

We have a 4 month old on our hands! She has reached a magical age where she is on a great schedule, is fun and playful, but can't move or get in to anything! Another great thing that's happened since last month is I can discern what she wants/needs about 95% of the time when she's fussy. We love our sweet baby girl! Here are her 4 month stats:

Height: 24.25" (50th percentile)
Weight: 12 pounds 12.5oz (25-50th percentile)
Head: 15.4" (10th percentile)

I had a hard time choosing between those first 2 pictures, but realized the one of her chewing her hands is an accurate representation of her at 4 months old!

She was really good about her 4 month shots - as she was with her 2 month ones. She happily gulped down the oral one and was babbling away. After the first prick, she looked very confused for a split second before the tears came. By the 3rd prick, she was crying so hard that her tiny head was shaking back and forth, her face was bright red, but no sound came out. When she finally did get the screams out, she was very cuddly and she stopped crying even before we went to schedule our next appointment, and she fell asleep on the way home.

At 4 months, Sophia:
  • just in the past week or so has grown out of most of her 0-3 month onesies, but the 3-6 month ones are HUGE!
  • takes 3 or 4 naps a day (usually at least an hour - longer in the afternoon and shorter in the evening)
  • LOVES putting her hands in her mouth, babbling, taking baths, and smiling at people other than her parents (we have to work hard for her smiles)
  • gets complimented most on her big blue eyes
  • laughs most while changing her clothes and when she's being held like she's flying. Her laughs are hard to come by, but SOOOO cute!
  • goes to bed around 9 and wakes up anywhere from 5 to 7am. Then she'll eat and go back to sleep until about 8:30 or 9:00.
  • has some formula every day because I just can't keep up! In fact, I am producing even less than I did 2 months ago.
  • cries less than she ever has in her life. She hardly ever cries when we put her down for naps (I credit babywise for that one), and is much better about handling her gas. She'll often be sitting in her bouncer, and I can hear her grunting for all she's worth :)
Sophia is getting more interactive, which made for a fun photo shoot. She'll smile at me, but as soon as she sees the camera, she gets a deer-in-the-headlights look. Here she is having a good time with her lion...
In the act of backhanding the lion. She did not want it to steal her spotlight.
Once she realized she was going to be in this picture with the lion no matter what, I laughed while she wrestled with it for a good 30 seconds until she got it into her mouth.
Happily chomping on her hands.
